How to connect your domain to your WooCommerce store

Updated · Anagathacommerce

Quick answer

To connect a domain to your WooCommerce store, add the CNAME record your host gives you at your domain’s DNS provider, plus any verification TXT records, then wait for DNS to update — usually minutes, sometimes up to an hour. For a root domain (without www) your DNS provider must support CNAME flattening or ALIAS records.

The records

  • CNAME — points your domain (for example shop.example.lk) to the store.
  • TXT — proves you own the domain so a certificate can be issued. They can be removed once the domain is live.

On Anagathacommerce the exact records, with copy buttons, are shown under *Domain & hosting* and the page re-checks automatically.

Root domain or www?

A root domain (example.lk) cannot always use a CNAME. Providers such as Cloudflare support CNAME flattening; others offer an ALIAS or ANAME record. If yours does not, use www.example.lk for the store.

SSL

Once the records resolve, an SSL certificate is issued automatically and the store is served over HTTPS.

How long it takes

Most changes apply within minutes. Some providers cache DNS for up to an hour; rarely longer.

Store email

To send order emails from noreply@your-domain, also add the DKIM (CNAME) and SPF (TXT) records shown under Store email. Without them, inboxes are more likely to mark your emails as spam.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a .lk domain?

Yes. Any domain whose DNS you can edit works.

Should the Cloudflare proxy be on?

For the store CNAME, follow the dashboard: it shows whether the record should be proxied. DKIM records for email must be DNS-only.

Can I change my domain later?

Yes. Domain changes update links, routing, the certificate and the email sender, and the old domain can keep redirecting.
